Cali Searls – About Canoeing And Camping In Border Waters MN

Miniscule pines
Reach finger-like branches toward a canopy
That seems forever away
Few will reach the distant canopy
And even fewer will reach the heights of their
predecessors
Those that do
Will be the majestic pine forest of tomorrow
I dream in rhythm with this experience
My body rocks in dreamless sleep
To the tune of ubiquitous chickadees
I am wild here
I grow like the pines — with the pines
Feral and free

Alix – May 21 2000 – Finally Discovered My Home

I have finally
Discovered my home
The mellowed tang of melting leaves
Suits my nose.

I can finally distinguish
Eighteen shades of light green
Revel in the subtlety of designed
Jagged and lobed leaf-edges

Mud colored branches
Embrace instead of pierce
Barren sky without
Clouds that have comforted me.

I remain in love with
Red rock, spiny covered desert
Big slug moist embrace of west cascade
And now I add centipede and Honey
Suckle.
